Nagpur: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rashmita Rao, newly appointed to Zone 4, conducted a raid on a ‘Worli Matka’ gambling den in Parvati Nagar. The operation resulted in the filing of cases against three individuals, including a constable from Ajni Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Mangesh Sambhaji Bawne (40), a resident of Shankarpur, Beltarodi, and Manish Mataprasad Prajapati (26), from Sheshnagar, Hudkeshwar. Among those involved in the betting racket was also Constable Manohar Kashinath Mulmule (42), who is posted at Ajni Police Station.
Acting on information regarding a ‘Kalyan-Mumbai’ betting syndicate, DCP Rao initiated the raid, leading to the arrests of Mangesh and Manish, who were found accepting bets. The police seized 251 betting slips, Rs 450 in cash, a mobile phone, and a pen from Mangesh, while Rs 170 and a mobile phone were confiscated from Manish.
Further investigations revealed that Constable Mulmule had been placing bets through Mangesh’s phone. All three were booked under Section 12(a) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act, and notices were issued before their release.
