A total of 71 coal blocks in various states including Maharashtra are being examined with a focus on the commitment of the Union Government in meeting the demand.
The Coal Ministry conducted a meeting to review the status of mines that have been auctioned in different trenches and are in varying stages of process completion. The 71 coal blocks are in various stages of obtaining regulatory clearances. These blocks are distributed across nine states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and West Bengal.
This strategic review underscores the Ministry’s proactive approach to addressing hurdles in coal block operationalization in order to meet India’s growing energy needs. By focusing on these mines, the government aims to maximize domestic resources and reduce dependence on coal imports.
The Ministry of Coal remains committed to strengthening India’s energy security through increased domestic coal production, supporting the nation’s path towards sustainable economic development.
