More than 50,000 seats for engineering degree courses in Maharashtra for the academic session 2024-2025 are still vacant. The third round of admissions was completed a couple of days ago.
A CAP round is likely to be held soon to fill the vacancies. The remaining seats after this round can be filled in the engineering colleges on their own.
Out of the 1,64,336 seats available in Maharashtra, only 1,12,981 seats were filled, and the remaining 51,355 seats are still to be filled in.
The response to engineering courses has reduced during the last few years posing serious problems for engineering colleges. Many colleges have applied for the closure of their colleges or the closure for some branches of the engineering faculty.
The students prefer to opt for short-term technical courses, instead of the four-year engineering degree course. The short-term technical courses provide employment earlier compared to the engineering graduation. The teaching facilities in most of these institutions are also responsible for producing engineering degree holders not capable of getting employment.
