The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has received 926 applications for its ‘Aapda Mitra/Sakhi’ scheme.
This initiative is designed to build a network of volunteers who will serve as first responders during disasters.
The volunteers will be provided with a one-day training workshop covering both theoretical and practical aspects of disaster management. The training will include concepts such as hazards, risk, and vulnerability, as well as practical skills like search and rescue, using fire extinguishers, basic first aid and life support, and lifting and stabilizing loads.
The applications will be shortlisted based on physical criteria. The shortlisted candidates will have to participate in another one-day training session. Good mental and physical health are very important qualifying criterions.
A medical fitness certificate is mandatory as per the guidelines of the Centre’s ‘Aapda Mitra’ scheme.
