A large number of deaths and injuries in the country are caused by road accidents, most of which result from human error. By following traffic rules, these accidents can be significantly reduced. In response to this, Dr. Chandrashekhar Mohite, a member of the National Road Safety Council and advisor to Tracks Road Safety NGO, New Delhi, has initiated a commendable public awareness campaign on road safety. The campaign is being conducted in schools across the district, including Nagpur, with the goal of educating students, teachers, and parents about traffic regulations and the risks associated with road accidents.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has praised this road safety initiative. In a letter of goodwill, he commended Dr. Chandrashekhar Mohite and also reached out to District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, instructing him to offer full support to ensure the campaign’s success. Dr. Mohite highlighted that preventing road accidents is one of the country’s most urgent challenges. He believes that educating students about road safety from an early age will lead to significant improvements in the future.
The campaign is also focusing on addressing over 100 black spots—high-risk accident zones—across the city and district. Dr. Chandrashekhar Mohite, Member of the National Road Safety Council, stated that efforts are being made in coordination with the relevant authorities to fix these hazardous areas and reduce accidents. Led by Tracks Road Safety NGO, New Delhi, the campaign will send experts to schools to educate students from Years 8 to 12, along with their teachers and parents, about traffic rules, road safety, and the causes and consequences of road accidents.
