An incident of extortion and assault occurred at Ramnagar Chowk, behind Hanuman Temple in the N.I.T Ground, Ambazari, where a local Ganpati mela was taking place with municipal and police permission.
According to police sources, Rajkumar Babulal Gupta, 52, a resident of Plot No. 78, Munjebaba Layout, Ambazari, along with his associates, has been organizing the mela annually. On the evening of September 15, 2024, around 8:30 PM, Gupta was seated near the gate of the mela ground when three individuals approached him with an extortion demand.
The accused, identified as Satish Channe (32), Rahul Ingole (30), and Deva Shravan Sirsat (32), all residents of Jai Nagar, Trust Layout, Ambazari, demanded ₹1 lakh from Gupta. Channe, recently released from Yerwada Jail, threatened to stop the mela if his demand was not met. The accused also insisted on controlling the parking area and warned Gupta not to interfere, threatening physical harm if their demands were not fulfilled.
During the confrontation, Gupta’s son was assaulted by an unidentified individual, resulting in minor injuries. The son was treated at Dande Hospital.
Following Gupta’s report, the Ambazari police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 308(2), 3(5), and 351(3) of the BNS.
Deva Shravan Sirsat has been apprehended, while the search for the remaining suspects continues. Further investigation is underway.
