Nagpur witnessed a heartwarming celebration as thousands of devotees gathered to bid farewell to ‘Nagpurcha Raja,’ one of the most cherished Ganesh idols in the city. After ten days of worship and devotion, the atmosphere was filled with emotion as devotees, with tear-filled eyes, prayed for the return of Lord Ganesha next year.
Adorned with gold jewelry, the idol of ‘Nagpurcha Raja’ captivated onlookers throughout the festivities. A grand procession was organized in honor of the idol, which holds a significant place in Nagpur’s Ganesh Utsav.
This year, 1,212 public Ganesh idols were installed across the city, with 457 immersed. For idols taller than four feet, Koradi Lake was designated as the immersion site, while the Kolar and Kanhan rivers accommodated larger idols. Smaller idols were immersed in artificial tanks set up within the city.
Ganesh Visarjan, the immersion ritual, marks the conclusion of the Ganesh festival and is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Devotees dance and chant as they carry the idols to the water bodies, symbolizing the cycle of creation and dissolution. This joyous yet emotional farewell highlights the deep cultural significance of the event.
To ensure the smooth flow of the immersion process, over 5,000 police officers were deployed, according to the Police Commissioner. As the city bids farewell, devotees chant “Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya” in a heartfelt goodbye to their beloved Bappa.
