The much-anticipated completion of the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway has been postponed yet again. The final stretch, covering 76 kilometers from Igatpuri to Amane (Thane), will not open for traffic until after the results of the Assembly elections are declared, and the new government takes office.
Previously, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) had committed to making this stretch operational by the end of September. However, that deadline has now been missed.
MSRDC Managing Director Anilkumar Gaikwad told Lokmat Times, “One carriageway of the Igatpuri-Amane stretch is ready, and the second will be completed in the coming days. However, the 4-km road from Amane to Vadape (on the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway) is facing issues. Both MSRDC and NHAI are working to resolve them, but it will take some time. We will open the last leg of the Samruddhi only after the Amane-Vadape road is ready.”
According to MSRDC sources, even if the Amane-Vadape road is finished during the election period, the final stretch of the expressway will remain closed until the new government assumes charge.
