Joint Initiative by Maha Metro and NMC to Ease Student Travel
Travel for students of Symbiosis International University in the Wathoda area has become easier and more affordable, starting from September 18. A program was organized at the Symbiosis Institute campus where Dr. Nitin Rakesh (Director of Symbiosis Institute of Technology), Dr. Ramdas Khomne (Senior Assistant Professor), Mr. Mahesh Morone (Senior Deputy General Manager of Maha Metro), Mr. Akhilesh Halwe (Deputy General Manager of Maha Metro), Mr. Ghatole (Manager of NMC Transport Department), and Mr. Sanjay Dixit from Chalo Mobility App flagged off the “Apali Bus” feeder service. This joint initiative by Nagpur Metro and Nagpur Municipal Corporation will greatly benefit a large number of students commuting to this educational institution.
The First and Last Mile Connectivity initiative under Nagpur Metro’s Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) Department aims to connect passengers from their destination to the metro stations. Metro has been implementing various initiatives from time to time in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, providing services such as the “Apali Bus” or shared autos for passengers commuting between home and metro stations.
Symbiosis International University, headquartered in Pune, started its branch in the Wathoda area of East Nagpur five years ago. The campus houses the Symbiosis Institute of Technology, as well as law and management departments. This university is located 4 km from Maha Metro’s Prajapati Nagar station on the Aqua Line. Many students living in different parts of the city currently rely on private vehicles for their commute. This new service has been introduced to save them time, energy, and money while ensuring a safe and comfortable journey.
The Metro Connect initiative was organized at the Symbiosis Institute of Technology by the Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) and Corporate Communication departments of Maha Metro. The event was conducted with the support of Dr. Nitin Rakesh and Dr. Ramdas Khomne, focusing on student-related topics. During the discussion session, Director Dr. Nitin Rakesh proposed the idea of starting a bus service from the Prajapati Nagar Metro station to the institute.
Following this, a joint meeting between Maha Metro, NMC Transport Department, and the college took place. They decided to launch a feeder bus service from the institute campus to the Prajapati Nagar Metro station in the mornings and evenings, aligned with the students’ schedule. To kickstart this initiative, a camp was organized at Symbiosis Institute of Technology to provide detailed information about the entire project.
