In response to a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by activist Ajay Surechand Bose, the Nagpur Police Commissionerate revealed shocking crime statistics for the period between January 1st and August 31st, 2024. The report disclosed that a total of 6,839 crimes were registered across various categories, reflecting serious concerns about public safety in the city.

• Murder: 61 cases
• Attempt to Murder: 134 cases
• Robbery: 138 cases
• Rape: 213 cases
• Molestation (Outraging Modesty of Women): 320 cases
• POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Cases: 172 cases
The data reveals a disturbing rise in crimes against women and children. Of the total cases, 213 were rape cases and 320 involved molestation, highlighting an ongoing threat to women’s safety in the region. Additionally, 172 cases were registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, underscoring a rise in crimes against minors. The recent case in the Pardi area is just one of the many incidents that have drawn attention to these issues.
Violent crimes remain a significant concern, with 61 murders and 134 attempted murders reported in the city during this period. Robbery cases, which stood at 138, further contribute to the growing sense of insecurity among residents, pointing to increasing street crimes and theft.
