The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Tuesday, September 24 quashed the Caste Scrutiny Committee’s decision to revoke Rashmi Barve’s caste validity certificate and set aside the cancellation of her Zilla Parishad membership by the Divisional Commissioner.
Justices Avinash Gharote and M.S. Jawalkar directed the committee to issue a new caste validity certificate to Barve and ordered a compensation of Rs 1,00,000 to be paid to her. The case stemmed from a complaint questioning her Scheduled Caste status, which the court ruled was handled hastily.
Barve had previously faced legal challenges when the Supreme Court dismissed her Special Leave Petition regarding her Lok Sabha nomination. However, today’s ruling restores her caste status and allows her to continue her public service role. Advocate Sameer Sonwane successfully represented Barve in the case.
