In a late-night operation on Thursday, the State CID apprehended Ritika Maloo, the main accused in the Ram Jhula accident case, from her residence in Deshpande Layout, Wardhaman Nagar.
The arrest came after a rare move by the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), who reopened the courtroom at 10:30 pm, granting permission for Maloo’s arrest after sunset, despite her being a woman. This action followed the sessions court’s decision earlier on Wednesday to cancel Maloo’s bail, paving the way for the CID to arrest her 214 days after her Mercedes fatally hit two individuals on Ram Jhula.
A team of ten CID officers, including two female personnel, raided one of the Maloo family’s residences shortly after midnight. The female officers entered first, accompanied by two male officers. After nearly 40 minutes inside, the team exited without Maloo and proceeded to the fifth bungalow of the family in the same lane.
At around 1:45 am, the female officers were seen escorting a woman into a vehicle, seated between them, as the convoy quickly left the scene. Sources confirmed the woman was Ritika Maloo.
