Mumbai police have increased security in crowded areas due to intelligence from central agencies regarding a possible terror threat. Security measures have been strengthened at religious sites and busy public spaces throughout the city. Police sources indicate that officers have been directed to carry out mock drills in these locations as a precaution.
Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been assigned to closely monitor security in their respective zones, with specific instructions for temples to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. As part of these precautionary measures, a mock drill was conducted on Friday at the busy Crawford Market, which houses two well-known religious sites.
Officials clarified that the heightened security is a standard part of preparations for the upcoming festive season, as Mumbai gets ready for major celebrations like Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali. The city is also preparing for the Maharashtra state assembly elections, anticipated to occur in November.
As the festive season approaches and political events loom, Mumbai police have increased efforts to ensure public safety, particularly in high-traffic areas.
