The ongoing controversy surrounding the Garba and Dandiya programme in Ramdaspeth, Nagpur, has been resolved this year after legal disputes. While some residents of Ramdaspeth had approached the court to oppose the event, the organisers decided to change the venue. The Ramdaspeth Plot Owners and Residents Association announced that this year’s event will be held at Maharajbagh Club instead.
Previously, the event took place at Sheshrao Wankhede Mor Hindi Higher Primary School ground in Ramdaspeth. A group of residents filed a petition with the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, which was heard by Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Abhay Mantri. Respondents included several government officials and departments, along with the Ramdaspeth Plot Owners and Residents Association and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.
The court had sought responses from the municipal commissioner and other officials regarding the objections. However, the organisers preemptively decided to relocate the event. The “Crazy Dandiya” will now take place at Maharajbagh Club from October 3 to 11, with participation from various Garba groups across the city.
