The 87th Annual General Meeting of the Nagpur Chamber of Commerce was held on Monday at 4 PM in the Chamber’s auditorium located at Sevasadan Chowk, Central Avenue. Elections were conducted on this occasion in the presence of a large number of councilors, supervised by Chief Election Officer Mr. Mahendra Kataria and Election Officer Mr. Bhagirath Murarka.
In the elections, Kailash Jogani was elected President, with Vijay Jaiswal as Secretary. The following individuals were elected unopposed to other posts: Pradeep Jaju as Senior Vice President, Tarun Nirban as Vice President, Nathabhai Patel as Treasurer, and Vivek Murarka and Laxmikant Agarwal as Joint Secretaries. Mr. Govind Pasari will serve as the outgoing President. Additionally, Venugopal Agrawal, Purushottam Thackeray, Vipin Panpalia, Shankarlal Khandelwal, Devkinandan Khandelwal, Vasant Paliwal, Girish Lildia, Sanjay Pandey, Manoj Bagdi, Nikhil Kakani, Sunil Jejani, Prashant Jagyasi, Vinod Pawar, Mahesh Bang, Vijay Saraf, Vivek Ukhalkar, and Haresh Soni were elected to the board of directors.
CA Kailash Jogani, the newly elected president of the Nagpur Chamber of Commerce, expressed his gratitude to the traders for their support. In his speech, he noted that the Nagpur Chamber is the oldest business organization in Central India. He highlighted the potential for growth in the Indian economy, stating that the coming 20 years are a golden period for industry and trade. Today, India’s economy stands at $3.9 trillion, with a growth rate exceeding 7 percent, and it is expected to become the world’s fourth-largest economy at $5 trillion by 2025-26, surpassing Japan. By 2030-31, it may reach $8 trillion, overtaking Germany to rank third.
According to Deloitte, retail trade during the upcoming festival season, from Navratri to Diwali, is projected to reach ₹5 lakh crores nationally, with Nagpur contributing around ₹5000 crores, of which ₹2000 to ₹2500 crores will come from retail. He mentioned that Maharashtra’s revenue deficit is expected to exceed 3 percent, with a debt of approximately ₹8 lakh crores and a fiscal deficit rising to 1.9 percent. Provisions like Ladli Behana may burden the common man, and he urged the government to curb freebies and subsidies. Jogani also addressed the challenges faced by the common man and businesses due to increasing encroachment and traffic chaos in Nagpur. He advised business owners to control their children and not allow those under 18 to drive. He cautioned against drinking and driving, referring to the Ramjhula incident, and advised staying away from cricket betting and gambling. Jogani emphasized that businessmen are also consumers, urging them to engage in healthy and ethical business practices and contribute fully to the country’s economy.
In the AGM, Babubhai Qadri, Dinesh Sarda, Sandeep Khemka, Vijay Saraf, Kamalkishore Sarda, Umesh Patel, Pramod Bagdi, and a large number of members were present. The meeting was conducted by Vivek Murarka, and the vote of thanks was given by Tarun Nirban.
