The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of the Universities in Maharashtra issued orders on Tuesday late evening directing the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of RTM Nagpur University Dr Sanjay Dudhe to vacate the post.
Dr Dudhe continued to work as Pro-VC even after the death of VC Dr Subhash Chaudhari. The post of Pro-VC is coterminous with that of the Vice-Chancellor. However, Dr Dudhe continued to work and cleared files until Tuesday evening.
RTMNU Senate member Adv Manmohan Bajpai raised the issue and wrote a letter to the Chancellor quoting provisions of Section 13(7) of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act 2016. The term of the Pro-VC ends with the completion of the VC’s term or completion of the age of 65 years.
Dr Chaudhari was under suspension and died following health-related issues. The day he died the post of VC became vacant and the term of Pro-VC also ended. Dr Dudhe, however, continued to function, which led to Adv Bajpai seeking clarification from the Chancellor..
