The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), West Region, is set to organize a mass training program titled ‘SWASTHYA Programme, SURAKSHA SANKALP’ for street-food vendors on October 8 at the Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium, Nagpur. The event will commence at 10 am, with Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, along with senior FSSAI officials, in attendance.
Over 2,000 street-food vendors are expected to participate in the program, which aims to improve food safety practices within the street-food sector. The FSSAI’s Food Handler Training Programme will focus on educating vendors about safe food handling, hygiene practices, and preventing contamination. This initiative is part of a larger plan introduced in 2023 to train 25 lakh food-handlers across the country by 2026.
Street food plays a vital role in India’s culinary culture, and this program aims to not only improve safety but also support the growth of the vendors’ businesses. Vendors will learn how to comply with government-mandated food safety regulations, ensuring the food they serve is safe for consumers.
