The Nagpur Municipal Corporation is set to introduce the “Integrated Intelligent Traffic Management System” (IITMS), an AI-driven solution aimed at enhancing traffic flow and minimizing congestion in Nagpur. This advanced system will also aid law enforcement in addressing traffic violations more effectively.
The IITMS will improve all 164 traffic controllers in the city. Once connected to the main server, the traffic system will undergo changes helping people follow traffic rules and making traffic flow smoother. Deputy CM Fadnavis said that Rs 197 crore has been approved for this system.
On Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched several development projects for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and laid the foundation stones, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari present.
According to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Pohra River Pollution Elimination Project will help restore the river to its original state. He shared this information during the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony for several development projects, which was led by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
At the event, projects valued at around Rs 1,300 crores were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that these development projects by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation would benefit the residents of South-West Nagpur and the entire city. One significant initiative is a Rs 957 crore project aimed at eliminating pollution in the Pohra River, which has become heavily polluted. This project will restore the river to its original condition and address sewage problems in the southern sewage zone, contributing to environmental conservation.
He also shared his happiness about laying the foundation stone for the new Shrimant Raje Raghoji Bhonsle Nagar Bhavan, a Town Hall that can hold 250 Corporators at once and will have modern facilities. He added that citizens will now be able to access medical services more conveniently.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that Nagpur will have a 24×7 water supply within four months, supported by nearly Rs 5,000 crore in projects to enhance cleanliness and reduce pollution. Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari highlighted various development initiatives, including the distribution of permanent land titles to slum dwellers in Rambagh, housing under the Shabari Tribal Housing Scheme, and mobile phones for ASHA workers.
The event was hosted by Manish Soni, with former Corporator Prakash Bhoyar delivering the vote of thanks. Notable attendees included former Mayors Maya Iwnate, Nanda Jichkar, Sandeep Joshi, and former Corporator Avinash Thakre. The dignitaries also laid the foundation stones for several projects, such as the Late Balasaheb Thackeray Primary Education, Art and Culture Centre, an artificial immersion pond in Nagpur, and various construction and expansion initiatives for primary and secondary schools in Satnami GM Banatwala, Rani Durgavati Nagar, and Chichbhuwan.
Other projects include the beautification and development of open spaces, dividers, and under-flyover areas, along with the installation of fountains and landscaping in various locations. Additionally, water tanks in Jaitala and Gayatri Nagar were inaugurated, and new health facilities under the Ayushman Bharat scheme were opened in Chandranagar and other areas.
