The Other Backward Classes (OBC) Bahujan Welfare Department is set to establish 75 government hostels across 36 districts in Maharashtra, aimed at supporting students from Other Backward Classes, Vimukt Jati, Nomadic Tribes, and Special Backward Classes pursuing basic education. Of these, 10 hostels have already been inaugurated, with an additional 44 set to open on Wednesday.
Dnyaneshwar Khillari, Director of the OBC Bahujan Welfare Department, shared this information during a press conference on Tuesday. He stated that students residing in these hostels will receive free accommodation, meals, and educational materials. The inauguration ceremony will take place on October 9 at 1:30 pm at the Grand Airport Banquet, South Airport Metro Station. The event will be graced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and OBC Welfare Department Minister Atul Save.
Of the 44 new hostels, two will be located in Nagpur district. The distribution includes six hostels in Nagpur division, ten in Amravati, four in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, eight in Latur, five in Nashik, nine in Pune, and two in Mumbai.
Also present at the press conference were Prashant Shirke, Joint Director of the Bahujan Welfare Department, along with regional deputy director Vijay Wakulkar and assistant director Sukeshini Telgote.
