A disturbing incident unfolded on the night of October 12, when a 17-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped, assaulted, and extorted for money by three individuals, including a juvenile, during a Garba event in the Narendra Nagar area of Nagpur. The crime took place between 11:45 p.m. on October 12 and 12:45 a.m. on October 13, in the jurisdiction of Beltarodi Police Station.
According to police reports, the victim, identified as Prajwal Vipin Patil, a resident of Narendra Nagar, was attending the Garba celebration at Lakshavedh Ground when he came across two acquaintances, Harshal Rajesh Shahu (19) from Balakrishna Nagar and Prayag Ravindra Meshram (19) from Mudranagar, Nagpur.
The duo, accompanied by a juvenile, allegedly demanded money from Prajwal to purchase drugs. When he refused, they forcibly confined him in a four-wheeler (vehicle number MH 31 CP 7811) and drove him to the Pandit Havel area in Shankarpur. There, they subjected him to verbal abuse and physical assault, threatening to kill him if he did not comply with their demands.
The attackers filmed the entire incident, further intimidating Prajwal by threatening to make the video viral if he sought help or reported the crime. The accused then extorted Rs 3,000 in cash from him and coerced him into transferring an additional Rs 2,000 online. Before releasing him, they issued dire threats, warning him against approaching the police.
Following a complaint filed by Prajwal’s father, Vipin Patil, Beltarodi Police Station swiftly registered a case under various sections of the BNS including Sections 137, 308(4), 140(2), 296, 351(2), 115, and 3(5). Police personnel immediately launched an investigation, apprehending the two accused and detaining the juvenile involved in the crime.
