The Post-Graduate Department of Chemistry at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has been recognized as a ‘Local Active Chapter’ by the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) for the second consecutive year. This recognition comes after the department secured two gold and 14 silver medals in the NPTEL courses, showcasing their academic excellence.
NPTEL, a collaborative initiative of IITs and IISc, offers courses through the Swayam platform, providing national and global-level education. The local chapter at RTMNU encourages students to register for these courses, enhancing their knowledge under the guidance of top academicians.
Dr. N. N. Karade, Head of the Post-Graduate Department of Chemistry, has been instrumental in promoting NPTEL courses among students. He organized workshops and mentored students, resulting in remarkable success. This year, 34 students completed the courses, with two winning gold medals, three emerging as toppers, and 14 securing silver medals in the fourth session of 2023-24.
Dr. Karade himself earned four gold and five silver medals and achieved the top rank in seven national-level examinations. In recognition of his contribution, NPTEL has appointed him as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for RTMNU.
Among the students, Laxmi Ravidas was awarded a gold medal, while Chaitanya Gadekar, Vaishnavi Gomase, Sneha Bankar, Soumya Pande, Komal Patel, Falguni Sadavarte, Srushti Waghmare, Khushbu Kolhe, Rutu Bhayani, and Mayuri Jain earned silver medals. Notably, Chaitanya Gadekar secured two silver medals.
Additionally, five students—Aditya Narnaware, Karuna Shahani, Apurva Bambal, Prachi Khobragade, and Shailesh Dongre—were recognized as ‘NPTEL Believers’ for successfully completing more than four exams, further highlighting the department’s academic achievements.
