In a surprising reversal, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has cancelled its decision to temporarily hike fares during the Diwali season. The announcement comes just 72 hours after the corporation initially declared a 10% fare increase, set to take effect from October 25 to November 25.
MSRTC typically raises fares to manage the surge in passengers during the festive period. This year, the corporation had issued official communications to officers regarding the fare hike, and depot managers had already begun preparations for its implementation. However, on Monday, the corporation abruptly cancelled the hike, issuing new instructions to depot managers to revert to the original fare structure.
No official reason has been provided for the sudden cancellation of the fare hike.
