In a major crackdown against the drug trade, Nagpur Police have confiscated narcotics worth approximately ₹4.55 crore in a series of operations conducted between January 1 and September 30, 2024. These efforts led to the registration of 197 cases and the arrest of 114 individuals connected to illegal drug activities in the city, according to Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal.
The police action targeted various narcotics, including marijuana (ganja), charas, mephedrone (MD), and doda (poppy husk), as part of a concerted effort to curb drug-related offenses in Nagpur. Below is a detailed breakdown of the substances seized during the period:
1. Marijuana (Ganja): The police registered 58 cases, resulting in the seizure of 5,34,513 grams of ganja, with an estimated value of Rs.52,13,720.
2.Charas: A total of 70 grams of charas was confiscated, with its value pegged at Rs.1,75,000.
3.Mephedrone (MD): In 38 cases, officers seized 2,919 grams of MD, valued at Rs.2,94,31,500. Additional items recovered during these raids were worth Rs.43,43,230, bringing the total value of MD-related seizures to approximately Rs.3,37,74,730.
4. Doda (Poppy Husk): The operation also led to the seizure of 131 grams of doda, valued at Rs. 10,54,800
The cumulative value of all narcotics and related materials seized by the Nagpur Police amounts to Rs. 4,55,63,380.
Commissioner Singal highlighted that these actions are part of the police department’s ongoing mission to transform Nagpur into a drug-free city. He urged citizens to actively support these efforts by promptly reporting any suspicious drug-related activities in their neighborhoods to the authorities.
“Our goal is to eliminate the drug menace from our society,” said Commissioner Singal, emphasizing the police force’s determination to continue its aggressive stance against drug traffickers and suppliers in Nagpur.
