The long-anticipated Manish Nagar underpass, which has faced several delays, is now nearing completion. However, the exact date for its inauguration remains uncertain due to the model code of conduct in place for the upcoming assembly elections.
The underpass serves as a vital connection between Wardha Road and the areas of Narendra Nagar, Manish Nagar, Besa, and Beltarodi.
Currently, hundreds of motorists are forced to take longer detours, but the project’s launch last year sparked optimism for a better route.
The work order for the ₹25 crore project, managed by MahaMetro with funding from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), was issued in February 2023. However, the costs increased to ₹32 crore. Work began in July 2023, with an original completion date set for February 2024.
The deadline was extended again to June, but MahaMetro has not yet finished the project. According to local media reports, the underpass is nearing completion, with only final finishing touches remaining. A source mentioned, “The work is nearly done and will soon be handed over to NHAI, which will determine the inauguration date.” Despite the progress, residents may face several more months of inconvenience due to the model code of conduct in effect for the upcoming assembly elections.
