In response to overwhelming public demand, the City Traffic Police have announced the enforcement of a new traffic system on Wardha Road aimed at alleviating traffic jams. Starting Monday, vehicles on the stretch between Morris College T-point and Ajni Square will face new restrictions between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm from Monday to Saturday.
As per the new arrangement, right turns will be prohibited, while left turns will be allowed at Rahate Colony T-point and Kriplani Square. A U-turn will be available near the Central Jail gate. The decision follows a trial run conducted from September 23 to 28, which yielded positive results. Many citizens reportedly urged the police to continue the arrangement to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Under the new system, vehicles coming from Ajni Square and Morris College T-point will only be able to make left turns at Rahate Square and Kriplani Square, while traffic from Deekshabhoomi Square to Kriplani Square will be restricted. However, residents near Deekshabhoomi-Kriplani Square will still be able to make a left turn when traveling from Ajni Square to Kriplani Square. After entering Deekshabhoomi Road, they can make a U-turn to reach their homes.
Additionally, only left turns will be allowed at Congress Nagar Square, and right turns will be strictly prohibited. Vehicles will be able to proceed up to the Central Jail, where they can make a U-turn and continue towards Morris College T-point.
To ensure smooth implementation, a significant number of traffic police personnel will be stationed at key points during critical hours. Officers have been instructed to strictly maintain their positions to manage traffic effectively.
The previous traffic system caused significant delays, particularly during evening rush hours, as motorists often faced bottlenecks due to two traffic signals at Rahate Colony Square and Kriplani Square. The new arrangement, which temporarily bans right turns at these intersections, is expected to ease the flow of vehicles, with 80% of traffic traveling straight and only 20% making right turns or U-turns. Signal timings at key points have been extended by 10 seconds to further improve traffic movement during peak hours.
While the new system has generally improved traffic conditions, a small number of drivers have faced challenges due to the right-turn restrictions. However, police officers noted that these inconveniences are minimal compared to the overall benefits. For those traveling toward Deekshabhoomi from Kriplani Square, a U-turn can now be made just 200 meters ahead, near the Central Jail gate.
