An army pharmacist, Ajay Anand Wankhede (32), has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Jyotsna (32), whose body was discovered in a deserted area near Butibori, Nagpur, two months after her disappearance. The two met on a matrimonial site over a year ago. Ajay had been married three times, while Jyotsna, a divorcee, was seeking a second marriage, informed DCP Zone 4, Rashmita Rao here, on Tuesday.
The murder occurred on August 28, 2024, following a heated argument. Ajay lured Jyotsna to Neelkamal Society in Besa, where he killed her and buried the body in Butibori, concealing the site by plastering the ground. He also discarded her phone in a truck to mislead investigators.
“The investigation was delayed as Ajay, a Type 1 diabetic, fled to Pune Military Hospital and evaded arrest, taking advantage of military protocols. Police traced Jyotsna’s phone, leading to Ajay’s surrender after his bail plea was denied,” she mentioned.
Under interrogation, Ajay confessed, and her body was recovered on Monday. The police continue to investigate.
