Sadar Police arrested a policeman for allegedly extorting Rs 12 lakh from a woman in the name of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rahul Madne. The officer threatened the woman with harsh consequences unless she paid him cash. He had already collected Rs 10 lakh before being caught while taking the last installment of Rs 2 lakh.
Sachin Dilip Meshram (36), who lives at the Police Headquarters in Teka, Nagpur, has been arrested, while his accomplice, Sachin Kalsarpe (31), is still on the run.
The police report states that Nutan, who runs a beauty parlor in Chandramani Nagar and considers Sachin Meshram as a brother, knows Sojal Ramesh Dumre (32) from Mankapur. Sojal was arrested on August 17 for a drug smuggling case and is currently in jail. On October 8, Sachin called Nutan to meet him at a hotel in Pardi, where he claimed that DCP Rahul Madne wanted to question her regarding names connected to the smuggling case, including her brother, who he said was also in police custody.
That night, Sachin went to Nutan’s house and warned her that she would also face legal action. He said he had talked to his superior, who demanded Rs 20 lakh to resolve the issue. After discussing the situation with Sachin Mule, a clerk for a senior police officer, they agreed to settle the case for Rs 12 lakh. Sachin then took Nutan to meet Sachin Mule, and they arranged to meet at 6 AM the next day, where Mule claimed he had already spoken to his superior.
Nutan eventually paid Sachin Meshram Rs. 10 lakh in installments. On October 21, Meshram asked her to meet at the High Court to collect the remaining Rs. 2 lakh. However, sensing something was wrong, Nutan reported the incident to DCP Madne. Following his instructions, Sadar Police, led by Senior Police Inspector Manish Thakre, set up a trap and caught Sachin red-handed as he accepted the Rs. 2 lakh in cash.
