The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has set up advanced illuminated signal bollards at key intersections in South-West Nagpur to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. These bollards, aligned with traffic lights, help drivers and pedestrians by increasing visibility. They have been installed at seven major junctions, including Pratap Nagar and Sawarkar Nagar Square, to ensure smoother traffic movement and safer roads, according to Rajendra Rathod, executive engineer (Electrical) at NMC, as reported by local media.
Rathod shared that the bollards are funded using unspent allocations initially set aside for the G20 Summit. Each bollard costs about ₹20,000 and is carefully positioned to keep vehicles from entering pedestrian areas. These illuminated markers create clear safe zones for walkers and encourage drivers to halt behind stop lines, promoting better road discipline.
The bollard installation is part of a plan to upgrade seven intersections in Laxmi Nagar, including road repairs and new markings. NMC is redesigning six intersections and plans to upgrade 12 more soon. Officials expect these efforts to greatly improve Nagpur’s traffic management.
