A major accident happened early this morning on the Samruddhi Highway near the Karanja Toll Plaza in Washim district. Around 4 a.m., a speeding truck collided with a stationary truck loaded with chemical cans, triggering a massive fire. Prompt intervention by the fire department averted a potential disaster.
The collision sparked a fire as the chemical cans in the stationary truck ignited. Fire brigades from the Karanja Municipal Council, Samruddhi Highway team, and Shivni Toll Plaza were deployed to contain the blaze. Despite their swift response, the incident disrupted traffic toward Nagpur, which remains halted.
Reports indicate that the stationary truck was under repair when a speeding truck rear-ended it, generating sparks that ignited the chemical cans onboard. The fire triggered small explosions as the chemicals reacted to the flames. Fortunately, the blaze was contained, though two people suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Traffic on the highway remains disrupted as efforts are ongoing to clear the route. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any further hazards.
