In a significant outreach to support the health of elderly inmates, Nagpur Central Jail on Friday hosted a specialized orthopedic health camp, organized in collaboration with the Nagpur Houses of Mary Immaculate Foundation. The initiative aimed to address the medical needs of senior inmates, particularly focusing on those with chronic orthopedic ailments.
A team of medical professionals, including orthopedic doctors and physiotherapists, provided comprehensive assessments and treatments. Elderly inmates facing conditions such as arthritis, joint pain, back pain, and other chronic bone disorders were evaluated and received necessary medication and therapies. Conducting these examinations within the prison was crucial, as transferring inmates to external hospitals for regular treatment is challenging.
The medical team, led by Dr. Rahul Agrawal, Dr. Sarvendra Singh, Dr. Pankaj Raghute, Dr. Ritesh Mankar, Dr. Utkarsha Sahare, and Dr. Lisi Kurian, was joined by volunteers Unnati Bobade, Aradhana Paul, Sister Martha, Sister Christina, Sister Reena, and Sister Vanita, president of the organizing foundation.
Jail Superintendent Vaibhav Age underscored the importance of the camp, noting the growing need for accessible healthcare for elderly prisoners whose medical issues are often overlooked. Over 300 inmates benefited from the camp, including 247 male and 75 female inmates.
