Nagpur’s Cyber Police has busted a gang involved in creating fake social media profiles impersonating senior officials, defrauding citizens under the guise of furniture sales. Complainant Mohammad Yasir Bashir fell victim after receiving a Facebook message from a fake profile named “Dr. Ravindra Singal IPS,” offering discounted furniture. Bashir was swindled out of Rs. 85,000.
Following an investigation, police traced the gang to Kota Khurd, Rajasthan, apprehending three suspects, including Rukmuddin Khan, Shakir Khan, and Innas Khan. The gang used multiple fake Facebook accounts impersonating high-ranking officials to attract victims and relied on mobile SIM cards sourced from Assam and West Bengal for anonymity. Four mobile phones used in the fraud were seized, and further investigations are underway to uncover additional crimes linked to the suspects.
