In a significant development for Nagpur’s traffic management, the Sadar and Mankapur flyovers, constructed nearly a decade ago, are set to be connected. The National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) safety consultant has initiated work to link the two bridges at Kalpana Talkies Square in Mankapur, with modifications planned to ease the bridge landing towards Kasturchand Park.
Once completed, the connected flyovers will enable uninterrupted travel across a 4.5-km stretch from Samvidhan Square to Faras. This long-awaited improvement is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance safety in an area where traffic density has been steadily increasing. Just a few months ago, a multi-vehicle collision underscored the dangers of the existing traffic flow around Kalpana Talkies Square near Mankapur Stadium, where encroachment along the stadium wall has further complicated traffic movement.
Despite these challenges, a proposal to widen the road from Kalpana Talkies Square to Sadiqabad remains in limbo. This route, which includes a divisional sports complex and will soon host a new district hospital, is anticipated to see a rise in traffic, increasing the urgency for infrastructure improvements.
