Nagpur Zilla Parishad has inaugurated a Voter Awareness Cell to boost voter turnout in the upcoming assembly elections. Collector Vipin Itankar, at the inauguration, stressed expanding outreach to encourage more citizens to vote, aiming to increase participation across both urban and rural areas in Nagpur.
The Voter Awareness Cell, operating under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, will run a variety of creative campaigns to engage the public. Planned activities include awareness drives with decorations and rangoli designs, messages from children urging family members to vote, the ‘My Parents Will Vote’ campaign, and events like marathons, cycling, and taluka-level rallies.
In villages, the Voter Awareness Cell will organize additional initiatives like village task forums, ‘nari shakti’ programs, the five principles of voting, village tours, election workshops, and the ‘refreshments and voting’ campaign to enhance outreach. Zilla Parishad CEO and district SVEEP nodal officer, Vinayak Mahamuni, emphasized the cell’s awareness efforts. Key responsibilities have been assigned to members, including Project Director Varsha Gaonkar, Deputy CEO Kailash Ghodke, Extension Officer Deepak Meharkure, and Anjali Prasad, who will collaborate with other department heads.
