The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended home voting facilities to citizens above 85 years of age and voters with over 40 percent disability in Nagpur district. This initiative is expected to benefit 57,860 senior voters and 22,121 individuals with disabilities across the district.
To avail of this facility, eligible voters from all 12 assembly constituencies in the district must complete the Form 12-D application, selecting the postal ballot option. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been conducting door-to-door visits to assist senior citizens in filling out these applications.
The completed Form 12-D must be submitted to the BLO or the election officer of the respective constituency. Nagpur district currently has 25,361 registered disabled persons, with 22,121 of them listed as eligible voters, accounting for 0.49 percent of the total electorate. Additionally, 1.28 percent of voters, totaling 57,860, are over 85 years of age and now eligible for home voting.
To maintain transparency, videography will document the entire home voting process. Two officials, including a micro inspector, a videographer, and a representative of the candidate, will be present during voting. Voters will receive prior information about their home voting schedule through the BLO. Extra vigilance will ensure that voter confidentiality remains intact.
Praveen Mahire, Sub-District Election Officer, commented, “The administration is fully prepared to implement home voting. Our goal is to carry out this process with transparency and ease, aiming to enhance voter turnout.”
