The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) on Monday has cautioned citizens against dumping or burning waste near power lines, transformers, and other electrical equipment due to increased fire risks. Following Diwali celebrations, uncollected waste, including firecracker remnants, has accumulated in some areas close to power infrastructure, posing a potential fire hazard.
Past incidents of waste fires have damaged underground cables and disrupted electricity supply. With current high temperatures, these risks are further heightened. MSEDCL advises citizens to keep waste away from electrical systems and promptly report any fire near power infrastructure by calling toll-free numbers: 1912, 19120, 1800-212-3435, or 1800-233-3435.
