A private outing between a young couple turned into a night of distress when locals misinterpreted their intentions, leading to police intervention and undue scrutiny. The incident unfolded on the evening of Monday, November 5, near Trimurti Square, under the jurisdiction of the Ranapratap Nagar Police Station.
According to sources, the woman was seen in a sleeveless top and jeans near a liquor shop, a common choice of attire. However, her appearance led some locals to mistakenly suspect she might be differently abled. Their concerns escalated when they observed her purchasing alcohol with a male companion and subsequently entering a hotel room, booked via a mobile app known for its couple-friendly policies.
Alarmed by what they perceived as unusual behavior, the locals notified the Ranapratap Nagar Police Station, fearing that the woman might be in a vulnerable situation. Responding promptly, the police arrived at the hotel, took the couple to the station, and conducted inquiries to clarify the circumstances.
According to police, the couple was consenting adults who had checked into the hotel for private time and were not involved in any illegal activities. The woman was mentally stable, and there was no indication of any wrongdoing or non-consensual acts.
The situation, however, took an unexpected turn as locals reportedly captured videos and images of the couple, which began circulating on social media, generating rumors and attracting significant media attention. Police emphasized the importance of respecting individuals’ privacy and urged citizens to avoid drawing unfounded conclusions based on appearances.
