As Maharashtra prepares for the 2024 Assembly elections, Nagpur police have ramped up efforts to ensure law and order. Since the Code of Conduct came into effect on October 15, police have registered 574 cases, arrested 628 individuals, and seized goods valued at approximately Rs 99,58,112.
The operations targeted illegal liquor sales, narcotics under the NDPS Act, and unlicensed firearms. As of November 7, authorities registered 440 cases of illegal liquor, arresting 476 suspects and seizing liquor worth Rs 11,03,034. In narcotics raids, police seized substances valued at Rs 6,29,506 and arrested 42 individuals across 29 cases.
A separate drive focused on unlicensed firearms, yielding 76 knives, 22 swords, and other weapons. Additionally, Rs 41,77,850 in illegal cash and contraband tobacco valued at Rs 14,78,657 were confiscated.
These actions, led by Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal and senior officials, underscore the force’s commitment to a fair and secure election.
