As per the Election Commission’s instructions, senior citizens above 85 years old and persons with disabilities will have the option to vote from home in the November 20 State Legislative Assembly election. The home voting process will begin on November 14 across all 8 Assembly constituencies in the district and will continue for three days, ending on November 16.
The Election Commission had also offered this facility to citizens above 85 years of age and persons with disabilities during the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. This initiative will allow people with health issues, who might have otherwise skipped voting, to exercise their right to vote.
To avail of the facility, eligible individuals had to fill out a 12 D form through polling center officers. After verification, 2,862 voters in Amravati district were found eligible for home voting, including 2,422 senior citizens. The breakdown is as follows: 360 from Dhamangaon Railway, 192 from Badnera, 221 from Amravati, 484 from Teosa, 273 from Daryapur, 150 from Melghat, 388 from Achalpur, and 354 from Morshi constituency.
A total of 440 divyang (disabled) voters will also vote, including 52 from Dhamangaon Railway, 53 from Badnera, 82 from Amravati, 47 from Teosa, 48 from Daryapur, 22 from Melghat, 67 from Achalpur, and 69 from Morshi.
The administration has formed Assembly-wise teams for the home polling process, with a total of 139 teams set up for registered home voting. This includes 20 teams in Dhamangaon Railway, 25 in Badnera, 19 in Amravati, 15 in Teosa, 15 in Daryapur, 14 in Melghat, 15 in Achalpur, and 16 teams in Morshi constituency.
“The home voting process will be conducted transparently. Voters can request assistance from a helper, but only one person can help each voter,” said Saurabh Katiyar, Amravati Collector. He has urged political party representatives to be present during the home voting process.
