Tensions flared at Awasthi Square in Nagpur early Tuesday as supporters of Nagpur West candidates Vikas Thakare and Narendra Jichkar allegedly clashed, with reports of physical confrontations. The altercation quickly escalated, leading officers from Gittikhadan Police Station to step in.
Police have registered a non-cognizable offence (NC) against both groups involved, according to sources.
This incident marks another controversy for independent candidate Narendra Jichkar, who recently faced scrutiny over a ration distribution issue.
Nagpur West is witnessing a three-way race among Congress candidate Vikas Thakare, BJP’s Sudhakar Kohale, and independent candidate Jichkar. Voting for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections is scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
