The State-Level Mowgli Utsav 2024 was inaugurated on November 11 with MLA Dinesh Rai flagging off the event at 5 a.m., sending young “Mowgli Mitra” participants from districts across the state on an exciting safari adventure. The three-day festival, running from November 11 to 13, celebrates its 18th year of promoting biodiversity awareness at the Pench National Park in Seoni district, famously known as “Mowgli’s home.”
The event includes 242 children, 58 teachers, and 12 facilitators, with participants comprising two students of each gender and one teacher of each gender from junior and senior classes in each district. Activities are organized into three teams—Balu, Bagheera, and Kaa—offering a diverse experience through jungle safaris, habitat exploration, and treasure hunts, all supervised by guiding teachers, facilitators, and Forest Department staff.
Participants were taken to Duriya in the “Bagheera” bus on the first day. Throughout the festival, they will engage in activities designed to foster understanding of environmental conservation and the forest ecosystem.
Since its inception in 2004, the Mowgli Bal Utsav has welcomed nearly 6,000 students and teachers and continues to involve National Green Corps (NGC) members in selection processes at school, tehsil, and district levels.
