In a heartfelt appeal to citizens, Sonu Nayana, a representative of the transgender community, urged the people of Nagpur to exercise their democratic right to vote on November 20. “The Indian Constitution grants us, like all citizens, the invaluable right to vote. In the last Lok Sabha elections, many in our community took part and fulfilled our responsibility. This time, we will vote not out of mere duty, but with self-respect, and we hope Nagpur residents will come out in large numbers as well,” said Sonu. Adding an emotional note, Sonu said, “Our blessings will reach the families of those who cast their votes.”
The rally, organized as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, took place at Gitanjali Chowk to promote awareness about voting rights and encourage citizens to take part in the upcoming assembly election. Following the rally, Sonu’s emotional appeal received a warm response from the community.
The rally, held near Gitanjali Talkies, saw a strong turnout from the transgender community, including figures such as Zonal Officer Suresh Khare, Vidya Kamble, Rakhibai, Muskanbai, and Vidyabai, who joined together in support. Attendees pledged to play an active role in promoting voter participation and raising awareness among the public.
With this initiative, the transgender community is leading the charge to inspire higher voter turnout in Nagpur, emphasizing that every vote counts in strengthening democracy.
