To facilitate safe voting for elderly and disabled citizens in the upcoming assembly elections, the Election Commission has introduced a home voting service for voters aged 85 and above and those with over 40 percent disability. On November 14 and 15, this service will be available to 3,437 eligible voters across 12 assembly constituencies in the district, including 1,416 voters in rural areas and 2,021 in urban areas.
In rural constituencies, Katol has 54 disabled voters and 345 voters aged 85 and above; Saoner has 27 disabled and 189 elderly voters; Hingna has 23 disabled and 127 elderly voters; Umred has 64 disabled and 279 elderly voters; Kamptee has 21 disabled and 120 elderly voters; and Ramtek has 20 disabled and 147 elderly voters.
In urban areas, Nagpur South West leads with 771 elderly and 36 disabled voters; Nagpur South has 361 elderly and 36 disabled; Nagpur East has 128 elderly and 39 disabled; Nagpur Central has 151 elderly and 18 disabled; Nagpur West has 329 elderly and 50 disabled; and Nagpur North has 84 elderly and 18 disabled.
To ensure maximum voter participation, the district administration is running awareness campaigns. The home voting process is available after voters complete a simple declaration form, with representatives from political parties permitted to observe the process. Secrecy is strictly maintained, with video recording by two officers, a micro-inspector, videographer, and authorized candidate representatives during the voting. Booth Level Officers have been informing eligible voters about the process. District Election Officer Dr. Vipin Itankar has issued strict instructions to staff to maintain voting confidentiality.
