The private coaching classes will not be able to claim 100% selection and 100% placements. The Central Government has issued new rules for the misleading claims by the coaching centres.
Under the Central Consumer Protection Act, the rules have been issued on Wednesday. Show Cause notices have been issued to 54 coaching centres. Moreover, 18 coaching centres have been slapped with a fine of Rs 54.60 lakhs and directed to withdraw the misleading advertisements.
The major directions include –
1. Coaching centres cannot make false claims about the curriculum, period of their completion, fee structure, selection rate, rankings in exams and refund of fees.
- Cannot claim about the security of jobs or rise in the pay package.
- Cannot publish names and photographs of toppers and their certificates without permission.
- Written permission has to be obtained from the candidate for mentioning him in the toppers list or selection for any job.
- The Centres will have to provide all the information about the Centre and Curriculum to the students.
- The Centre will have to inform about the course selected by the toppers.
- Disclaimers about the promotion of the coaching centres will have to be published with information of course opted by the toppers.
- The guidelines are not for counselling, sports and constructive activities.
- Centres will have to provide information about the facilities, services, infrastructure and basic facilities available.
- Provide information on whether their courses are recognised by AICTE, UGC and other similar bodies.
The government is not against coaching centres, but are trying to prevent misleading information provided to lure students.
