A tragic incident took place on Friday evening in Uttar Pradesh where ten children lost their lives in a fire that broke out at a hospital. The official in charge mentioned that the number of casualties may increase. The fire started in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi, possibly due to a short circuit. The medical staff and doctors were quick to respond, evacuating patients and breaking windows to let out the smoke before the fire brigade arrived. According to initial reports, 10 children could not be saved while 37 were rescued. A committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the fire. The deputy chief minister and minister of medical education of Uttar Pradesh stated that out of the 54 children admitted in NICU, 44 have been rescued and seven of the deceased have been identified.
The visuals from the scene were heartbreaking, with relatives crying for their lost loved ones and charred medical equipment seen in the affected ward.
