Central Railway, Nagpur Division, has successfully completed the replacement of the bottom bearing plates and rehabilitation of the bed block surface on Bridge No. 727/1 (ORN-2) over the Wardha River. This crucial work, executed under live traffic conditions, marks a first for Central Railway and showcases the division’s technical expertise and commitment to safety and infrastructure enhancement.
Details of the Work:
Located on the Wardha – Akola section (Badnera – Wardha), Bridge 727/1 has a span of 12 meters and 18.30 meters. For the past two years, the bridge was under ORN-2 category due to the bending and sinking of the existing bottom bearing plates into the mortar surface. A total of 48 bottom bearing plates were replaced, and the bed block surface was rehabilitated, all while maintaining train operations at a reduced speed of 30 km/h.
Key Activities:
– Removal of old, damaged bearing plates and replacement with new ones.
– Rehabilitation of the bed block surface using high-strength epoxy mortar and leveling techniques.
– Use of synchronized jacks to lift girders and insert new bearings.
– The entire work was completed during short, 120-minute blocks, with trains running at a caution speed of 30 km/h.
Central Railway’s Remarkable Achievement:
The successful execution of this work under live traffic, without causing major disruptions to train services, highlights the exceptional technical skills and coordination within the Central Railway team. This rehabilitation is part of the ongoing efforts to improve the structural integrity of railway infrastructure, ensuring the safety and punctuality of train services.
This initiative is a major step towards strengthening the infrastructure of Indian Railways, ensuring enhanced safety for passengers, and contributing to the long-term sustainability of rail operations.
