Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the opposition bloc, reiterating his slogan, “Ek hain toh safe hain” (United, we are safe), which he described as the nation’s “maha-mantra” (national chant).
Addressing BJP workers at the party headquarters in New Delhi following the Maharashtra Assembly election results, PM Modi emphasized the significance of unity in securing the BJP-led alliance’s landslide victory. “After Haryana, the biggest takeaway from the Maharashtra elections is the message of unity. ‘Ek hain toh safe hain’ has resonated as the maha-mantra of the nation,” he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted how this sentiment of unity had thwarted divisive forces attempting to fragment the nation along caste, religion, language, and regional lines. “This mantra has taught a lesson to those who propagate division. It has punished them. Tribals, OBCs, Dalits, and every section of society have rallied behind the BJP-NDA. This is a strong rebuttal to the Congress and INDI alliance’s divisive agenda,” he added.
Record-Breaking Win for BJP-Led Mahayuti in Maharashtra
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a decisive victory in Maharashtra, winning 230 of the 288 Assembly seats. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, consisting of the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), managed to lead in only 50 seats, falling short of expectations.
PM Modi praised the alliance’s historic win, describing it as a “monster victory” that broke records in Maharashtra’s electoral history. “This is the biggest victory for any party or pre-poll alliance in Maharashtra in the last 50 years. For the third consecutive time, Maharashtra has blessed the BJP-led alliance. Once again, BJP has emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra,” he said.
Congress and INDIA Bloc on the Backfoot
Taking a dig at the Congress and the INDIA bloc, the Prime Minister remarked, “BJP has secured more seats than Congress and its allies. Maharashtra is now the sixth state in the country to give a three-term mandate to the BJP.”
The BJP dominated the electoral race, winning or leading in 133 of the 149 seats it contested. Its allies—Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and Ajit Pawar’s NCP—secured 56 and 41 seats, respectively. In stark contrast, the Congress managed to win only 16 seats, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) secured 21, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) 10.
The results reaffirmed the BJP’s growing influence and showcased the electorate’s endorsement of the unity-driven narrative championed by PM Modi and the NDA alliance.
