Senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla, who was removed as Maharashtra’s Director General of Police during the election period, has been reinstated in the same position. The Home Ministry issued the orders to this effect on Monday. Shukla was removed following complaints against her by Congress State President Nana Patole. Sanjay Sharma was given the charge of DGP during the election process.
An IPS of the 1988 batch, Shukla was the first woman DGP of Maharashtra. She also holds the record for passing IPS officer at the age of 22. Later, she held several important positions.
When she was chief of the Intelligence Department, Rashmi Shukla was charged with tapping the phones of many opposition leaders, including Sanjay Raut and Eknath Khadse.
Granting her extension after retirement was alleged of her political connections. The issue is being discussed again after her reinstatement as DGP immediately after the elections. She also met Devendra Fadnavis after the elections, which she called a courtesy visit.
