In a significant initiative to enhance safety and emergency preparedness, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, Koradi, in association with Shalinitai Meghe Hospital & Research Centre, Wanadongri, Nagpur, recently organized a two-day First Aid and CPR training program.
The expert team from Datta Meghe Medical College (DMMC), consisting of Dr. Anjali Modak Borkar, Dr. Adeeba Siddiqui, Dr. Kirti Gujarkar, and Dr. Vrinda Sorte, conducted the training. The program aimed to equip teachers and students from grades 6 to 10 with essential first aid and CPR skills, which are crucial for responding to medical emergencies both within the school and beyond, potentially saving lives.
The first day began with a comprehensive introduction to first aid, covering topics such as basic wound care, management of burns, cuts, fractures, and techniques for handling choking and other breathing difficulties. Trainers emphasized the importance of immediate care during medical emergencies.
The highlight of the training was a detailed demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Dr. Anjali, Dr. Adeeba, Dr. Kirti, and Dr. Vrinda led this session, demonstrating the correct procedures for performing CPR on adults and children. They stressed the importance of maintaining proper compression depth and rhythm.
Teachers had the opportunity to practice CPR on mannequins under expert guidance, gaining valuable hands-on experience to build confidence in applying these skills during real-life emergencies. Students from grades 6 to 10 were actively engaged in practical sessions, practicing bandaging techniques, creating slings, and performing basic CPR.
The interactive approach helped solidify their understanding and application of the skills learned. The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where teachers and students clarified doubts and received additional tips for managing specific situations. The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing newfound confidence in their ability to respond to emergencies. The training was a tremendous success, providing participants with life-saving skills that can make a significant difference in critical situations.
The school administration, along with SMHRC and DMMC, expressed their commitment to organizing similar training sessions in the future to reach more students and staff. This initiative by Bhavan’s Koradi and Shalinitai Meghe Hospital & Research Centre underscores the vital importance of emergency preparedness in educational institutions and highlights the proactive steps being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
