An endangered vulture was saved near the Kanhan Kandri Coal Mine on Thursday night, November 28, following a swift rescue operation by local wildlife enthusiasts and authorities. The massive bird, equipped with a tracking device, was spotted near a substation by coal mine staff during routine patrols around 10 p.m.
Upon discovering the bird, the staff alerted Ashish Meshram and Bablu Mulunde of the Wildlife Welfare Society, Kanhan. The team immediately arrived, identified the bird, and safely captured it, fearing it could enter the coal mine and face fatal risks. The Forest Department was contacted, and the vulture was transferred to a transit treatment center for medical care.
The rescue operation was led by Chandrashekhar Borkar, Ashish Meshram, and Bablu Mulunde, with support from volunteers Rohit Farkase, Guddu Nehal, Ankesh, Deepak, Gopal Bisen, Manish Nandeshwar, and Pravesh Dongre. Their quick action ensured the bird’s safety and underscored the vital role of community efforts in wildlife conservation.
