A large fire erupted in the vehicle parking area of Varanasi’s Cantt railway station in Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday, burning approximately 200 two-wheelers. Footage from the scene showed intense flames and thick smoke engulfing the parking lot as emergency teams worked relentlessly to control the fire.
Fire Brigade and Police Respond Swiftly to Blaze
Fire brigade and police officials acted quickly in response to the fire, deploying 12 fire engines to extinguish the flames. Teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police were also on-site, supporting firefighting efforts. Despite the fire’s intensity, no injuries were reported.
Footage from the scene showed police using water hoses to combat the flames as thick smoke and haze filled the air. Officials confirmed the fire was brought under control after nearly two hours of coordinated efforts from the emergency teams.
Short Circuit Suspected as Cause of Massive Fire
Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit may have sparked the fire. Kunwar Bahadur Singh, CO GRP, confirmed, “Some cycles were also burned in the incident. The fire was caused by a short circuit. Further investigation is underway.”
Most of the vehicles damaged in the blaze belonged to railway employees. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause and prevent future incidents.
Thanks to the swift response from fire and police officials, a larger disaster was averted, and the fire was contained before spreading to other parts of the railway station.
